Lyric - Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)

Breath of Heaven, Mary’s Song
Written and performed by
Amy Grant

I have traveled
Many moonless nights.
Cold and weary,
With a babe inside.
And I wonder what I’ve done.
Holy Father, you have come
And chosen me now
To carry Your Son.

I am waiting
In a silent prayer.
I am frightened
By the load I bear.
In a world as cold as stone.
Must I walk this path alone?
Be with me now.
Be with me now.

Breath of heaven hold me together,
Be forever with me, breath of heaven.
Breath of heaven lighten my darkness,
Pour over me Your holiness, for You are holy.
Breath of heaven,
Breath of heaven.

Do you wonder,
As you watch my face,
If a wiser one
Should have had my place?
But I offer all I am,
For the mercy of your plan.
Help me be strong.
Help me be.
Help me.

Breath of heaven hold me together,
Be forever with me, breath of heaven.
Breath of heaven lighten my darkness,
Pour over me Your holiness, for You are holy.
Breath of heaven,
Breath of heaven.
Breath of heaven.

Gosh that’s a beautiful song, and I imagine these thoughts are probably very similar to what Mary was thinking. God placed a very big task on her shoulders, and she carried it out even though she must have felt very frightened and alone at times.

At some point in our lives, God asks each of us to carry out some difficult task. I wonder how many of us would drop everything, like Mary did, and carry out our task knowing that we would become outcasts. How many of us would say, “I don’t understand, Lord, but I offer all I am, for the mercy of Your plan.” I don’t think I would score very highly in this category. I try, but I still let my own wants get in the way of what God wants me to do. Boy, what if Mary had let her own feelings get in the way of what God wanted her to do. How many miracles are we missing out on today, because of our own selfishness? Not a very pleasant thought. But hey, it’s something we can all work on, right?

  1. My burdens heavy
    I walk alone,
    I can only do
    what I am shone.

    Oh heavenly Father carry me
help me Lord to understand thee.

    I do not question
    this wonderful task
    I can not hide
    behind a mask.

Oh heavenly Father now I see
You had a special plan for me.

  2. "Too many cooks spoil the broth."

I think sometimes our minds get clouded and decisions become too hard to make because there are too many cooks in the kitchen.

You only need to listen to ONE voice!
