Journal - Basement

So we’ve been working hard trying to get the basement cleaned up. It’s a nice basement, lots of space down there and it's divided into rooms very similar to the upstairs. With some carpet on the floor, it would make a very nice living area. Except that it’s very damp.

The basement doesn’t leak at all. We’ve had some pretty heavy rains, and the last month in particular has been very wet, but we haven't had any leaks at all. I guess it’s just the shower down there that makes it so damp. The moisture doesn't have anywhere to go so it just hangs around in the air. All that moisture makes it hard to control the mold.

We’ve spent the last three days scrubbing the walls and floors with bleach to get rid of the mold. Yesterday I did half of the big main room, and today I did the other half. Walmart had some dehumidifiers today when Joni went to do the weekly shopping, so she picked one up. It’s down there right now working, so hopefully that will take care of our problem.
